OUR STORY
Tissa began with a love for the saree.
Growing up in Australia as Sri Lankan girls, the saree always felt deeply familiar. It was woven into life's biggest moments, from weddings and family celebrations to the traditions that connected us to our culture.
We admired its elegance, craftsmanship and unmistakable silhouette, yet it rarely reflected the way we dressed or the lives we lived.
So we started imagining something different. What if the garments we grew up admiring could become something entirely new?
Our pieces are made for women who want to stand out, not fit in. For those drawn to original design, thoughtful craftsmanship and eventwear that feels unlike anything else in the room.
This is formalwear made for ease.
OUR DESIGN & PRODUCTION APPROACH
We create contemporary eventwear that reimagines the silhouettes, draping and craftsmanship of South Asian dress through an original design perspective. Thoughtful construction and modern wearability sit at the centre of everything we create.
Every tissa piece is developed over time through multiple rounds of refinement. We spend months perfecting silhouettes, fit, fabrication, and construction details before a design reaches production, ensuring each piece feels effortless to wear and considered in every detail.
Our collections are produced in small quantities and designed to be worn, re-worn, and treasured. We choose this slower pace to allow room for craftsmanship, attention to detail, and meaningful design rather than excess.
OUR NAME & LEGACY
The name Tissa holds meaning close to our hearts.
A Sri Lankan name associated with strength, grounding, and legacy. We chose it in honour of Minuri’s late father, and for what the name itself represents.
A reminder to build with intention, and to honour the people, stories and heritage that continue to shape us.
OUR PURPOSE
Our mission is simple. To stir tradition, not replace it.
To create space where heritage and modernity can evolve together.
Tissa is still small and growing. This brand is built slowly, thoughtfully, and with heart.
If you’re here reading this, thank you. We’re so glad you found us.
With love,
Minuri & Naomi
