OUR STORY
Tissa began with a feeling.
A love for the saree, and a quiet frustration with how complicated it can feel to wear one in everyday life.
Growing up in Australia as Sri Lankan girls, the saree was always present; at weddings, family gatherings, special moments. But it rarely felt simple, or truly ours to reach for on our own terms.
So we started imagining something different. What if a saree could feel effortless? What if tradition could meet modern life without losing its soul?
Our pieces are made for women who want to feel confident and comfortable in cultural dress, without needing help, instructions, or permission. For women who love tradition, but live modern lives.
This is formalwear made for ease.
OUR DESIGN & PRODUCTION APPROACH
We design pre-draped saree sets that honour the classic bones of the garment, while reworking them through a contemporary Australian lens. Clean lines, thoughtful construction, ease at the centre of everything.
Our collections are made slowly and intentionally. Every piece is designed with care, developed over time, and produced in small quantities. We choose this pace to allow room for refinement, craftsmanship, and meaning, rather than excess.
OUR MAKERS
Producing in India has always been important to us.
Our pieces are made in India by a women-owned manufacturer based in Delhi. We proudly work alongside the people who carry this craft and culture firsthand.
We’re deeply grateful to create with the makers who inspire our designs and bring them to life.
OUR NAME & LEGACY
The name Tissa holds meaning close to our hearts.
A Sri Lankan name associated with strength, grounding, and legacy. We chose it in honour of Minuri’s late father, and for what the name itself represents.
A reminder to build with intention and to carry forward the people and culture that shape us.
OUR PURPOSE
Our mission is simple. To stir tradition, not replace it.
To create space for ease, self-expression, and modernity within South Asian dress.
Tissa is still small and growing. This brand is built slowly, thoughtfully, and with heart.
If you’re here reading this, thank you. We’re so glad you found us.
With love,
Minuri & Naomi
